Synopsis

INTEREST. The growth of modern Iran under Shah Reza Pahlavi.

RL.1. "February 10th, 1937": Crowds waiting in Tehran for His Imperial Majesty Shah Reza Pahlavi to open beginning of new railway route to link Tehran with the Persian Gulf. Shah opening railway station with Crown Prince Mohammed Reza (48-120). Brief history of Iran from ancient civilisation - Palace of Persepolis (160-280) - and decline in modern times until discovery of oil in south-west of country. "1908": Oil discovered in commercial quantities, beginning of rise in nation's prosperity. "1921": Reza Pahlavi, then military commander, takes Tehran. Seen riding in on horseback (519-530). Begins re-organising country. Oil wells built, industries begun. Nomadic peasants now working in steel works. Developments over the whole country (624 ft).

RL. 2: "1937": Shah taking the salute with Crown Prince ( -83). March-past of military forces. New irrigation schemes in progress. Agriculture mechanised. Oil industry booming. Aerial views of Abadan, main port of Iran and main oil refining centre (230-260). Sugar beet production. Cotton and wool factories. Children working looms in factories. Women emancipated. University built in Tehran. Progress in education - work in schools seen. Iran now facing future with hope and vitality (1281 ft).
