Synopsis
The end of the Royal trip to India in 1922 of the Prince of Wales, visiting Malakand, Kapurthala and opening the Royal Military College at Dehra Dun.
"At the entrance to the Malakand Pass, rise the grim heights of Dargai where the Gordon Highlanders covered themselves with glory in 1895, and where Piper Findlater won the VC".
"Malakand Fort". Entrance. man with large bundle of sticks on his head. "Chak Dara fort"
"The Swats and Dirians who inhabit the country between Chak Dara and Chitrol are constantly at war with one another but in honour of the Prince's visit, a truce was declared for one day" Crowds line the roads; Swats and Dirians each present the Prince with a goat. LS of the Swat Valley.
Village of Thana "is renowned for the local manufacture of rifles copied from Le [sic] Enfield". Hillside village. The inhabitants of Thana are Swats, British protection does not extend this far.
"Only after a great deal of persuasion did the Political Agent (Chief Tribesman) allow Mr Fair of the Central News and Mr Woods-Taylor our camerman, to take these pictures. More shots of people on the road.
"Kapurthala. State elephants awaiting the arrival of HRH outside the Maharajah of Kapurthala's Palace". Several bedecked elephants.
"The Palace". Exterior shot.
"A very appreciative audience". Crowds cheer and clap.
Dehra Dun. The opening of the Royal Military College, Dehra Dun, by the Prince. He inspects the Guard of Honour composed of Gurkhas. "The regimental mascot of the Gurkhas". A live sheep ."Cadets will here receive their preliminary training as officers before going to Sandhurst". A little girl gives the Prince flowers. "A pretty little incident". "The march past of the cadets".
