Synopsis
Documentary about development in Qatar, funded by wealth from oil, including increased standard of living, irrigation, new housing, hospitals and schools.
Doha, the capital of Quatar, has been transformed into a modern city. Geographical information on Quatar is followed by footage of Bedouins. Wealth from oil has resulted in commercialisation in Quatar and a rise in living standards.
The sea is valuable for Quatar. Footage of fishing and diving for pearls, including opening shells and the trading of pearls, is followed by comment on the growth in the production of cultured pearls and the resulting decline in the trading of natural pearls. Oil has been found under the seabed and is now important. With footage of an oil drilling platform, the ruling family of Qatar, an OPEC meeting, new buildings being constructed, irrigation, a law court, new houses, consumer goods, a new hospital, new schools and boy scouts.
