Synopsis

Amateur film. A journey from Sumatra via Java, Malaya, Sarawak, Java and Sabah to Malaya.

Black and white. Starts with a map of Sumatra and Borneo showing the route from Sabang (Sumatra) to Deli (Java). Native ferry(?) boat on river in tropical forest. Palm plantation. Tropical forest. Funnel steamer at quayside. The map show the route from Sabang via Deli to Penang (Malaya). Penang harbour and craft. Colour. "Singapore". Harbour and street scenes. Map shows the route to Kuching (Sarawak) and Labuhan (Java). Inlets; native craft; Europeans playing deck quoits on steamer. Grave stone of Joseph Yapp, Yoon Chin(?) with naive inscription. Europeans on beach. "Jesselton" (now called Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, Malaysia). Rubber plantation scenes; scoring trees, etc. Map showing route to Lahad Datu. Boat at sea. Hoisting oxen from boat to lighter. Map showing route back to Penang. Ships in harbour. Scrum of travellers unloading seen from above. Sunset; fleet of dhows.
