Synopsis

ACTUALITY. The Earl of Lytton arrives in Calcutta to take up his appointment as Governor of Bengal.

Main title (12) Calcutta Board of Censors Certificate for 31.3.22 (19). Colonial officials wait at the station, the train pulls in. Lytton shakes hands with the officials. He chats to one and then he and Lady Lytton get into a carriage and are driven off with a mounted escort, passing a line of native cavalry (97) Jump cut - previous 5ft repeated (102). Some of the cavalry join the end of the procession (108) with three cars following (117). The procession goes along the main street of Calcutta, lined with crowds. Lord and Lady Lytton acknowledge the crowds. Pan following the procession as it turns into the archway of Government House (193). The Lytton's carriage halts at the bottom of some steps and they descend (225). Lytton inspects native troops lined up outside Government House (292). Lady Lytton stands at the bottom of the steps talking to the aides (315). Lytton strolls back over to them and they walk up the steps. At the top they shake hands with the staff of the House(?) lined up to greet them. The Lyttons enter the house (395ft).
