ROYAL NAVY IN YOKOHAMA

Synopsis
I. British naval ratings on leave in Yokohama. CUs as men examine Japanese currency - 10 yen notes. Boat takes the men ashore, passing a small light-house situated on the end of a mole - US crewmen have decorated one wall with the pennant and name of their ship, AD 17 USS PIEDMONT. A large I Class submarine lies outside the harbour. Small craft move to and fro. US attack transports and an amphibious force flagship are alongside in the harbour, while Allied cargo ships lie in the roads. LSs of the docks area - various craft are present including a US sub-chaser, two hospital ships, attack transports USS Jerauld (APA 173) and USS Duchess (APA 99). The camera-craft passes the merchantman Abiel Foster. LS to distant shipyard cranes. MS from quayside as British sailors come ashore from LCM. A second boatload disembarks - these men are in khaki drill rather than whites. The sailors stroll about the city streets - there is little traffic except a few trams and US military vehicles. Locals run a series of small kerbside stalls - little more than a few personal possessions, postcards or trinkets laid out on blankets. Various shots show the extensive burnt out areas - a gutted tram still stands in one street. CUs of locals. Three marines enter a US-administered 'Cinema Hall'.
II. Sequence showing RN headquarters in Yokohama. General MacArthur and Vice-Admiral Rawlings emerge with their staffs, and RM guard presents arms for breaking of Union Jack. craft move to and fro.
