This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: ADM 1439).

Synopsis

Sailors of the Mediterranean Fleet help with food supplies and relief work in Cyprus. A helicopter operating from HMS Theseus makes a reconnaissance flight over the disaster area.

Opening shot of sailors and marines on the back of a relief lorry laden with tents. Nearby someone has dragged their bed out of a damaged house into the open air. One of Theseus' Dragonfly helicopters begins to run up. Aerial view of villages and surrounding countryside. MS of another of Theseus' helicopters with one from HMS Falcon - the latter has its engine running - a crowd looks on. A RN party load a van with fresh loaves for distribution to earthquake victims. Sailors help to clear rubble. Shots of the damage - mostly cracked and collapsed walls. Sailors start unloading tents from lorry to set up a temporary encampment. In the harbour, more tents are unloaded from a local vessel. A Sub-Lieutenant talks to an elderly woman who shrugs resignedly. Sailors enjoy a brew up. Aerial views of Stroumbi - collapsed walls are numerous but it is damage rather than devastation - relief supplies have been stacked under canvas shelters. MS of helicopter 901 of HMS Falcon with locals milling about - their attention is drawn to the camera and they form an impromptu posed group, a young girl running in from the left to join the picture. HA sequence shot from onboard HMS Daring as tents are transferred from the destroyer into the local craft which will carry them into the harbour.
