Synopsis

HA.LS sequence shot from Government House as the Allied representatives file out onto the lawn for photographs after the Japanese surrender.

(i) HA views into the garden of Government House. RM band stands ready. The Allied representatives file out for photographs. The band strikes up for the flag raising ceremony and the Allied contingents salute. LS to the harbour where smoke drifts away as naval salute is fired. LS to the Japanese war memorial overlooking the city - soon to be demolished. Fly-past by RN Corsairs. (ii) Entry of HMS Duke of York into Hong Kong Bay on 13 September, carrying C-in-C BPF, Admiral Fraser. LSs as Duke of York steams right to left - local craft in the foreground and the fleet carrier HMS Indomitable visible in the background. Low cloud hangs over the mountains.
