Synopsis

General Sturdee, GOC First Australian Army, accepts the surrender of Japanese forces in the Bismarcks, Solomons and New Guinea on the flightdeck of HMS Glory off Rabaul on 6 September, 1945

HA.MS as Japanese delegation comes up stern ladder from small craft alongside Glory. HMS Hart (U.58) takes up station on the carrier's port quarter. A small table is set up on the flight deck, and the British and Australian representatives take up their positions. Japanese delegation comes up and General Imamura surrenders his sword. The surrender documents are signed. During the ceremony all off duty crew are present on deck, and the two sloops Hart and Amethyst hold station close astern.
