JAPANESE PRISONERS IN HONG KONG

This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: ADM 2425).

Synopsis

Amateur film shot by various unidentified Royal Navy officers. Canadian sailors (presumably from HMCS Prince Robert, arrived Hong Kong 30 August 1945) land on jetty at Kowloon and escort away Japanese soldiers (prior to formal surrender on 16 September 1945). HMAS Castlemaine (J.244) in background.

Notes

Summary: provenance of this material implies it is a collection of amateur films stored by the Admiralty, unlisted and unidentified. Because it was not 35mm nitrate film requiring specialised storage and proper transfer for archival preservation, the survival of this 16mm material is a fortunate event.
