Synopsis

Film of British occupation of Madagascar

LS of coastline and ships on the horizon. Shot from destroyer's bridge-forward turrets traversed to port. Rear 3/4 MS of Fiji Class light cruiser. Bridge scenes. Entry into port - MS of bow of sunken minesweeper; landing craft beaches. MS, flagpole flying tricolour. MS of a soldier sitting beneath a sun shade, writing a letter. 25-pounder towed by a Morris Quad - crew member sits in the open side door. Truck leaves a dust trail as it goes through a village at speed. Transport crosses a partly blown bridge. MLS, demolished bridge. Officers observe distant hills through binoculars - dust clouds suggest artillery fire. Commandeered transport crosses improvised floating bridge. Officers inspect wreckage of enemy vehicles. MCU of small pill box showing entrance hatch and turret traverse. Officers inspect dug-in howitzer MS, elevated Bofors gun. Native life. Senior officer arrives by plane - officers converse with French prefect. Various shots of ceremonial parade in Tananarive - Marmon-Herringtons, Universal Carriers, etc. Street scenes in the capital - rickshaws, part steps, flower sellers, etc. Training of native recruits - drills, semaphore, boatwork, PT etc.
