SAILORS OF TOMORROW (RUSHES 3)

Synopsis

I. Various shots of motor launches. Main sequence shows a Vosper 72 ft 6-inch motor torpedo boat exercising off Weymouth - she passes the mast of a sunken vessel and a moored Flower Class corvette.

II. Pan across Malta convoys, including (?) HMS Sirius. MS of water settling after near misses. Sky speckled with flak. MS of neighbouring convoy members. MLS of exploding merchantman - Tribal Class destroyer passes by. MS of a tanker bracketed by spray from near misses - pan to another bomb burst.

III. North African troop convoy - view of another bomb burst.

IV. North African troop convoy - view of nearby vessels.

V. LCAs go ashore - Seafire passes low over Hunt Class destroyer escort.

VI. View from a troop transport just offshore.

VII. A variation of item II - Merchantman explodes. Stick of three bombs falls near tanker. LS of burning vessel.

VIII. Aerial view of a convoy from a Sunderland.

IX. View of merchant shipping concentrated in anchorage.

X. Two inch rocket weapon, Mk IIP pillarbox mounting on pedestal emplacement - weapons traverses and fires.

XI. MS forward to single 4-inch AA and Oerlikon on waist of (?) Modified W Class destroyer.

XII. Gun crew serve aft twin 4-inch gun, trained over port quarter of Hunt Class destroyer escort (See ADM 625) - simulated shell burst and disablement of crew. MS, Oerlikon gunner. Twin 4-inch - loading, furze setting, etc.

XIII. A regatta. Country Class cruiser moored amidst sailing vessels. Views of individual craft - fore and aft schooners and yachts - under full sail (see ADM 625).

XIV. Hunt Class destroyers. Bow-on LA. MS of 'Hunts' berthed alongside. MS profile as HMS Fernie passes smoke flat. HMS Calpe lays smoke from stern. 3/4 view as HMS Cattistock passes camera. MLS of 2 Hunt Class destroyers underway on calm sea.

Fragments joined by spacer, originally intended for projects such as "Sailors of Tomorrow", "Boats and Boatwork" and "Introduction to Naval Gunnery".
