Synopsis
21 January. The Queens Royal Regiment in Bren gun carriers advancing along the road from Tarhunah on the last lap to Tripoli. The regiment marching in single file along the side of the road.
23 January. Civilians in Tripoli cheering and clapping as troops enter. The Union Jack is raised on the flagpost overlooking the harbour. Men from the Highland Division (Black Watch) talking to local women. The Lord Mayor officially surrenders to Lieutenant-General Montgomery. The Lieutenant-Governor and the Chief of Police at Castel Benito Gate. Montgomery talking to the mayor. Montgomery gives an interview to war correspondents after receiving the keys of the town. Montgomery gets into his car at Benito Gate and drives down the road to Tripoli. He drives through the streets of Tripoli with Lieutenant-General Leese, Commander of 30 Corps. British Crusader tanks going through the streets of Tripoli with infantry of the Highland Division riding on the tanks. The Pipe Major plays the bagpipes on the leading tank. The 4th Motor Battalion, Sudan Defence Force (Basutos) guarding the entrances to the native quarter and on the march.
Troops march forwards for a night attack in Libya. Tripoli surrenders to Montgomery.
