Synopsis
I. Item stressing the importance of engineering checks - Squadron Leader Murphy discusses a problem he once encountered with his Hawk aircraft's control column during a training mission.
II. Details of a "Well Done" award given to Sergeant Whiteman, a fireman at RAF Honiton, whose sharp eyes spotted a problem with a Tornado.
III. Discussion of the risk of Tornado crashes after steep dives due to inadequate awareness of the risks involved.
IV. Reconstructions of incidents, one at Hanover on 6 May 1988, where a Chinook landing for an air display collided with an commercial airline passenger bridge when taxiing (with three fatalities) and a crash during an aerobatics at RAF Abingdon in September 1988 which resulted in two deaths.
V. Reconstruction of an emergency landing at Gibraltar involving a Buccaneer aircraft, described by the pilot, Flying Officer Mike Saunders; the undercarriage failed to retract and an engine shut down due to fire, but Flying Officer Saunders landed the aircraft safely and was awarded a Green Endorsement. (Good aerial shots of the Rock of Gibraltar.)
