VILLAGE IN NORTHERN BURMA

This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: FUB 30).

Synopsis

Shots of British troops at a village in northern Burma, probably in late December 1944.

Wooden house somewhere in northern Burma; British soldiers approach. They barter for a chicken and then leave. Lorry carrying British troops drives down a road with local people around. At a temple or shrine British troops look at a large Buddha statue. Closer shot of the Buddha. Two civilian women pass; one is carrying a child. Jeep rolls past; apparently with a Burmese child in the front. Jeep laden with young Burmese children rolls slowly directly towards camera and stops just in front of it. Local boats on a river, probably the Irrawaddy; British troops step aboard.

Notes

No dopesheet for this film so details are unclear. At one point 36th Division insignia are seen, which would suggest northern Burma and a period of late December 1944.
