As troops of 2nd Division advance towards Ywathitgyi on the River Irrawaddy in Burma, field and medium artillery provide support, along with heavy bomber and fighter aircraft, and tanks.

Various shots showing a 25-pounder field gun having its barrel pulled through before firing. Unloading and unpacking ammunition. Assembling the breach. Adjusting elevation. Loading. Guns No.1 shouting fire. A gunner uses a rag to clean part of his gun; closer shot shows it is called Auld Glesga. Another shot of the No.1 calling fire. Various angles of 25-pounders firing. A 5.5-inch Medium Gun under tow. Various shots of gunners positioning their piece. Unloading 5.5-inch shells from the back of a lorry. Pulling a camouflage net over the gun; the men have the insignia of XXXIII Indian Corps on their bush hats. A 25-pounder and limber is towed past, covered in branches and foliage. Men position a circular gun platform. More shots from various angles of 25-pounders being put into position. Moving a limber and stacking ammunition boxes; a man has the Crossed Keys of 2nd Division on his hat. Jeep and trailer passes paying out signal cable. Man on field telephone. Man digging. Chevrolet CMP artillery tractor passes with 25-pounder and limber. Two jeeps pass. Universal carrier and motorcyclist passes. Cookhouse; a man pours a tin of something (probably condensed milk) into a large pan of tea. Pouring rice into a pan. Liberator heavy bombers pass overhead. Another sign gives direction to Mandalay, Shwebo, Wetlet and Shwebangon. A tank transporter passes carrying a Lee medium tank. The Lee is unloaded amid dusty conditions. Line of Lees drives towards and past camera. A Lee passes a derelict and overgrown-looking pagoda. A demolished, brick-built road bridge; an armoured car uses a diversion.

Notes

Well shot, and quite a good illustration of the total firepower superiority enjoyed by 14th Army by this point of the campaign.

The cameraman's dopesheet identifies the assaulting battalion as 1st Royal Scots, and that Sergeants Govan and Watson were attached to them for closer coverage of the assault. Unfortunately their presence was negated by the weather, with the wind apparently shrouding them in smoke.
