Synopsis

I. "GURKHAS COMPLETE THE REOCCUPATION OF BURMA". Gurkhas move up the river to a large Japanese transport centre on the Sittang River. II. "ID IN INDIA AND MALAYA". India's Muslim population celebrate Id-al-Fitr and fill the mosques to give prayers of thanksgiving at the end of Ramadan. III. CALCUTTA ROTARIANS' SPLENDID EFFORT IN CLOTHING THE POOR". The most deserving poor gather in Mohammed Ali Park to recieve cloth, collected by the Rotary club, for free distribution. IV. "LORD WAVELL RETURNS AND ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR INDIAN SELF GOVERNMENT". The Viceroy returns from London and announces the next steps towards an Indian Constitution, including further consultations and national elections. V. "JAPANESE OFFICIALLY SURRENDER SINGAPORE TO LORD LOUIS MOUNTBATTEN". General Itagaki meets Admiral Louis Mountbatten, Supreme Allied Commander, South East Asia and signs formal surrender papers.
