Synopsis

In Rangoon, Burma, the Anti-Fascist People's Freedom League (AFPFL) led by Aung San, holds a national conference near the Shwedagon Pagoda.

Crowd shots. Abandoned stalls at the conference, deserted by crowds apparently listening intently to the speakers. The headquarters of the Anti-Fascist Organisation (AFO, the wartime name of the AFPFL). Crowd shots. A small obelisk, a memorial to those AFO members killed fighting the Japanese. The AFO publicity office. An arched entranceway marked 'Burma National Congress' with people entering the grounds; the golden spire of the Shwedagon Pagoda rises in the background.

Notes

An important film that documents a stage of Burma's movement towards independence in January 1948.

The dopesheet names the speakers as Than Tun, Aung San and Thakin Chit. U Ba Choe is named as master of ceremonies. The dopesheet also names some seventeen different organisations represented at this conference.
