Synopsis

At an investiture at Government House, Singapore, Major-General Thomas Terry US Army presents medals to Lieutenant-General Messervy and other British officers, with Lord Mountbatten and other senior officers in attendance.

Party descending the stairs from Government House with Allied flags frame left. Lieutenant-General Sir Frank Messervy, General Officer Commanding Malaya, is decorated with the Legion of Merit by Major-General Terry. Lord Mountbatten (Supreme Allied Commander South East Asia), flanked by Lieutenant-General Sir Miles Dempsey (commander Allied Land Forces South East Asia) and Lieutenant-General Sir Frederick Browning (Chief of Staff South East Asia Command). Major Richard Sharples of the Welsh Guards receives the Silver Star. An RAF officer, probably Flight Lieutenant Brian Ridgway, receives the American Distinguished Flying Cross.
