Notes

HMS Jamaica was a Crown Colony Class cruiser and had fought at the Battle of North Cape in December 1943. Amongst the other vessels present at that battle was HMS Belfast, now a museum ship and branch of the Imperial War Museum. Jamaica also served at the Battle of the Barents Sea, against the Tirpitz during Operation Tungsten, in the Korean War, and at Suez in 1956.

Major-General Symes was the commander of South Burma District and thus had responsibility for Rangoon. For corresponding stills held by the Imperial War Museum's Photograph Archive, see related items.
