Synopsis

In Singapore Lord Mountbatten, Supreme Allied Commander South East Asia, inspects men of the Royal Navy's Force W, part of the amphibious force that landed troops in Malaya.

Mountbatten inspects a naval guard of honour. He speaks to a naval officer standing by a DUKW ('Duck') amphibious truck. Talking to officers. He goes to inspect a unit of Royal Marines. March past. Mountbatten salutes a Royal Marine band. Mountbatten addresses sailors. Mountbatten addressing sailors with the Municipal Building behind.

Notes

Force W was the first of three amphibious naval forces (W, Y and Z) intended to carry the assault element of a division during the landings against Malaya (Operation Zipper).

The dopesheet names a Captain A T G C Peachey, commander of Force W. Allan Thomas George Peachey was present at the Battle of Jutland and had served in the Royal Oak 1936-1938. His papers are held by the National Maritime Museum. See reference below.
