This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: JFU 530).

Synopsis

Brief film showing part of an air-sea rescue exercise with an airborne lifeboat Mk II near Singapore.

Six men onboard a motor launch trying to haul in a large parachute. Close-up of a (Malay?) man wearing spectacles, smiling broadly and grappling with the material. Men hauling in the material. Men sitting with their backs to camera; one is an RAF Group Captain and there is also a woman present with a large and decorative (straw?) hat hanging on her back.

Notes

Dopesheet for this film consists of a long narrative without any shotlisting. Cameraman gives the amount of footage shot as 200 feet, suggesting that most of this item is missing.

Dopesheet does not name the squadron involved, but is likely to be RAF 279 Squadron, as there were no other squadrons operating the Lancaster ASR Mk III in this region and in this period.
