LORD KILLEARN ARRIVES IN SINGAPORE

Synopsis

Sir Miles Lampson, Lord Killearn, Special Commissioner to South East Asia, arrives at Kallang Airport in Singapore and is greeted by Lord Mountbatten (Supreme Allied Commander South East Asia) and others.

At Kallang Airport Singapore a guard of honour of the RAF Regiment sloping arms with staff cars approaching. The guard presents arms. Flypast by an RAF Avro York transport aircraft and an escorting squadron of Spitfire fighters. York coming in to land; parked aircraft including a Consolidated Liberator, de Havilland Mosquito, and Douglas Dakotas in foreground. York taxiing. Long lens shot of Killearn disemplaning. Band playing. Killearn inspecting guard of honour with Lord Mountbatten. He doffs his hat and shakes the hand of the guard commander as his leaves. Band marching off. Killearn and Mountbatten departing by staff car, which is marked with the four stars of a General and flying pennants of the Allied nations.

Notes

Lord Killearn was appointed as a Special Commissioner in order to coordinate economic policy across the British area of influence in South East Asia. Of particular concern were the problems of food supply and reconstruction.

Aircraft's serial number appears to be LV 633, which would make this particular Avro York Winston Churchill's personal aircraft 'Ascalon'.
