Synopsis

View from the steps of the Municipal Building as Gimson's car draws up and he gets out. Troops and spectators at the top of the steps; Gimson leaves and descends the steps. He takes the salute before crossing the road to the padang where he inspects a guard of honour of 1st Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment. He returns to his car.

A white launch carries Gimson and party towards Clifford Pier. Gimson at the salute. He inspects a naval guard of honour; the covered pier is decorated with White Ensigns. He meets VIPs. He arrives at Government House and is greeted by his aide de camp (ADC).

Launch approaching Clifford Pier. The launch ties up. Gimson and party stepping ashore. He gets into his car at Clifford Pier. Arriving Government House. More VIPs arrive.

Gimson arrives at the Municipal Building and climbs the steps. Air Chief Marshal Sir Keith Park arrives. The Acting Chief Justice, Mr Justice C W Carey, arrives. Local spectators; some shading themselves under newspapers. Gimson leaving after the ceremony and takes the royal salute.

The new Governor of Singapore, Franklin Charles Gimson, arrives and is installed in Singapore.

Notes

Franklin Gimson had been the Colonial Secretary in Hong Kong when the Japanese invaded, and following the Japanese surrender established a provisional government in Hong Kong. He would remain Governor of Singapore until 1952.

This event was filmed by three cameramen. However their coverage is quite similar to each other, and so it is difficult to be sure who shot which part. The sequence including the arrival of Sir Keith Park was shot by Captain Walter.
