LORD KILLEARN AND DELEGATES AT FOOD CONFERENCE IN SINGAPORE AND REHOISTING OF UNION JACK AT PENANG

This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: JFU 567).

Synopsis

Part 1, shot by Sergeant Wilcox on 26 March 1946: Lord Killearn and an unidentified officer walking in the grounds of Government House, Singapore. Killearn and other delegates pose for photos.

Part 2: shot by Sergeant Brown on 26 March 1946: Various shots of Killearn and party in the grounds and posing for the cameras.

Part 3, shot by Sergeant Hutchins on 10 March 1946: The Union flag is raised at Fort Cornwallis in Penang by Yeoman Abdul Latif. Crowds looking on. View of a small guard of honour, comprising a band, detachments of the Malayan Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve, the Malay Volunteers, and the local police. Guard marching off led by the band. Close-up of Sub-Lieutenant Powell, Royal Navy, commander of the guard.

At Government House in Singapore the recently appointed Special Commissioner for South East Asia, Sir Miles Lampson, First Baron Killearn, attends a conference to discuss the food situation in the region, and at Penang a Union flag hauled down in 1941 is flown again at the mast at Fort Cornwallis.

Notes

The dopesheet describes a roll of film under this reference as depicting cut-in material for execution footage, though the negative was apparently junked as 'useless' shortly after shooting.

Dopesheet for Part 3 names a Brigadier Perowne (commander Penang Sub-Area), a Lieutenant-Commander Charles Royal Navy Reserve (the resident naval officer) and Commander Pollock. The Volunteer Force detachment was apparently under a Malay, Lieutenant Pawan, the police under a Captain Cowper, and the bandmaster was Sergeant Bhagat Singh.
