RACE MEETING AT KUALA LUMPUR

This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: JFU 570).

Synopsis

In Kuala Lumpur, Malaya, a race meeting is held, sponsored by headquarters Malaya Command.

Wide shot of the starting line and competitors at the start of a race. Very long shot; taken with a 6-inch lens (apparently as an experiment) of the start of the second race; camera pans to follow. High and wide oblique view of a race with spectators in the foreground; horses approach and the leader is out in front by several lengths. Shot of horses of the third race in the distance; one can be seen to fall and throw its rider: 'much to everyone's grief the horse had to be destroyed' (from the cameraman's dopesheet). Spectators. View of the finishing post and grandstand; horses pass (Horse No.3 apparently winning by 'a walkover'). Horses are paraded in the paddock before a race. Jockey mounts No.5, apparently 'very frisky before he arrived'. Three horses are led to the track from the paddock.

Notes

This was the third flat race since the resumption of racing in Kuala Lumpur.
