Synopsis
The 1st Battalion 11th Sikh Regiment celebrate their centenary with a formal presentation of new colours at Kuala Lumpur, with Lord Mountbatten, the Sultan of Selangor, Sir Edward Gent and other dignitaries in attendance.
Mountbatten steps down from his aircraft. He inspects a guard of honour of the RAF Regiment. Mountbatten poses with officers including Air Vice Marshal Breakey, Lieutenant-Generals Messery and Stopford with the aircrew behind. Pipe band of 1st Battalion 11th Sikh Regiment marching on the padang at the Royal Selangor Club in Kuala Lumpur. Long lens shot of the band playing. The Sultan of Selangor, Alam Shah, arrives. A copy of the battalion's history, written by their commanding officer at the time Lieutenant-Colonel P G Bamford and with a foreword by Messervy, is held by the museum's Department of Printed Books. See related items.
The dopesheet also names a Lieutenant-General R A Savory, the Adjutant-General. Savory had served as a Second Lieutenant in the regiment's predecessor (the 14th Ferozepore Sikhs) at Gallipoli in 1915.
