Synopsis

At the Municipal Building in Singapore, the new Governor General of Malaya, Malcolm MacDonald, is installed.

Dignitaries arriving including Lord Killearn (Special Commisioner South East Asia), Sir Edward Gent (Governor of the Malayan Union) and Sir Franklin Gimson (Governor of Singapore) and Malcolm MacDonald. After the installation MacDonald leaves the Municipal Building and takes a royal salute. He inspects a guard of honour of 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry before departing.

Notes

Malcolm MacDonald, previously High Commissioner to Canada from 1941, was Governor General of Malaya until 1955, when he became High Commissioner to India. He presided over Malaya's turbulent transition to federal government, in a period of great upheaval both in Malaya and more widely in south east Asia.
