Synopsis

At the Municipal Building in Singapore, the new Governor General of Malaya, Malcolm MacDonald, is installed.

General Sir Montagu Stopford, commander Allied Land Forces South East Asia, arrives at the Municipal Building. Lord Mountbatten, Supreme Allied Commander South East Asia, arrives with his wife, Lady Mountbatten. MacDonald arrives. After the installation MacDonald receives a salute from a guard of honour of 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry. Inspecting the guard and departing.

Notes

Malcolm MacDonald, previously High Commissioner to Canada from 1941, was Governor General of Malaya until 1955, when he became High Commissioner to India. He presided over Malaya's turbulent transition to federal government, in a period of great upheaval both in Malaya and more widely in south east Asia.
