Synopsis

The Governor-General of Malaya, Malcolm MacDonald, arrives at Changi airport Singapore.

MacDonald is greeted at Changi. He receives a salute. He inspects a guard of honour of the RAF Regiment. Macdonald takes the salute as the guard marches off, with Lord Louis Mountbatten, Supreme Allied Commander South East Asia. Talking with Lady Mountbatten. MacDonald speaking with Sir Edward Gent, Governor of the Malayan Union.

Notes

Malcolm MacDonald, previously High Commissioner to Canada from 1941, was Governor General of Malaya until 1955, when he became High Commissioner to India. He presided over Malaya's turbulent transition to federal government, in a period of great upheaval both in Malaya and more widely in south east Asia.
