Synopsis

At the Municipal Building in Singapore, the new Governor-General of Malaya, Malcolm MacDonald, is installed.

Wide shot of MacDonald receiving a salute; he is obscured by other cameramen and photographers. He inspects the guard of honour provided by 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry. The guard marches off.

Notes

Malcolm MacDonald, previously High Commissioner to Canada from 1941, was Governor-General of Malaya until 1955, when he became High Commissioner to India. He presided over Malaya's turbulent transition to federal government, in a period of great upheaval both in Malaya and more widely in south east Asia.
