KING'S BIRTHDAY PARADE IN SINGAPORE

Synopsis
For the first time since the end of the war, a parade is mounted in Singapore to mark the King's birthday, and Sir Franklin Gimson, Governor of Singapore, takes the salute.
View, probably from the roof of the Municipal Building, of the padang with triservice guard of honour on parade. Senior officers and officials at the salute. Gimson, in his car, is driven slowly around the assembled parade. Telephoto shot of the Royal Standard breaking at the masthead. Looking out to Singapore harbour two ships, the Minotaur Class light cruiser HMS Swiftsure and Loch Class frigate HMS Derby Haven, wreathed in smoke having fired their guns in salute. Looking to the crowded harbour with the naval contingent in the foreground. Three cheers are given for the King. Looking down on Royal Marine band playing; pan to the head of the march past (led by Major-General Lionel Cox, commander Singapore District) and on to officers etc on a dais in front of the Municipal Building. Naval contingents. Telephoto shot of Gimson. Contingents of 1st Battalion Royal Scots, 1st Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, 1st Battalion Cameronians, 1471 Indian Pioneer Company. Motorised units passing including a grader, lorries and a DUKW ('Duck') amphibious truck.
