KING'S BIRTHDAY PARADE IN SINGAPORE

Synopsis

For the first time since the end of the war, a parade is mounted in Singapore to mark the King's birthday, and Sir Franklin Gimson, Governor of Singapore, takes the salute.

Gimson arrives at the padang and takes a salute. He gets back into the car to inspect the parade. Spectating VIPs including Rear-Admiral Edgerton, Lieutenant-General Sir Montagu Stopford (commander Allied Land Forces South East Asia) and Lord Killearn, Special Commissioner to South East Asia. Gimson passes. Royal banner flying. Officers at the salute. Gimson, Stopford et al leave the padang. On a dais for march past. Naval contingent from HMS Swiftsure passing. Men of 1st Battalion Royal Scots, 1st Battalion Cameronians and 1st Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment passing. Motor transport and heavy equipment passing, including a bulldozer on a lowloader, a dumptruck, motorcyclists and a DUKW ('Duck') amphibious truck. Gimson departing. Killearn departing.
