Synopsis

At Singapore almost five thousand British servicemen board the Cunard White Star liner RMS Mauretania for repatriation, with Air Chief Marshal Sir Keith Park also sailing.

A Singapore Free Press newspaper vendor wears a notice reading 'Mauretania Sails Today - Full page of pictures'; a naval officer approaches the vendor while the gangways are withdrawn from the ship. Notes

The Mauretania was a 34,000-ton vessel capable of 23 knots. On this trip she set a new record for the round trip to Singapore, sailing 16,863 sea miles in 37 days, 5 hours and 16 minutes at an average of 22.84 knots.
