Synopsis

Shot by Lieutenant Abbas: Indian troops line a road as General Slim's jeep passes, followed by a second. Gurkha (?) troops at the roadside. Jeeps drive away from camera towards Fort Dufferin. Military policeman on a motorcycle. A jeep driven by Major-General Rees (commander 19th Indian Division) with Slim in the passenger seat drives away from camera. Slim and Rees on foot at Fort Dufferin; the taller man probably Sir Montagu Stopford, XXXIII Indian Corps commander. Slim and Rees in a jeep are cheered by soldiers at the roadside; there are many cameramen about and a third man in the jeep is probably Air Vice Marshal Vincent, commander RAF 221 Group. Jeep drives away from camera. Troops leaving a parade ground. Troops marching out.

Shot by Lieutenant Hayat: Military police motorcyclist leads Slim's jeep. Gurkhas on parade. Troops at Fort Dufferin watching from a distance. Slim taking a salute. Slim, followed by the party of senior officers, mounts a platform for the flagraising. The flag is raised and Slim leads in 'three cheers for the King-Emperor!'. Group of senior officers including Major-General Nicholson (commander, 2nd Division, wearing 'crossed keys' insignia and nearest camera), as well as Rees, Stopford, Slim, Major-General Gracey (commander, 20th Indian Division) and Vincent. Stopford goes to climb into the back of a jeep while Slim walks round to the passenger's side; Rees and Vincent follow.

After the fall of Mandalay, Burma's second city, Lieutenant-General Sir William Slim (commander 14th Army) leads a ceremonial flagraising in Fort Dufferin.
