MINOR LANDING BY ROYAL INDIAN NAVY OF 1ST LINCOLNS TEN MILES SOUTH OF RAMREE TOWN

This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: JIN 26).

Synopsis

British infantry of 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment board Royal Indian Navy LCMs (Landing Craft Mechanised) make an amphibious landing ten miles south of Ramree Town, in the Arakan region of Burma.

British troops, heavily laden, board a landing craft. Various shots of stores being loaded. Water churning at the stern of a landing craft. LCMs make their way up a chaung (river or watercourse). View through the bow ramp. Ramp down; there are soldiers waiting on the beach. Close-up of the coxswain's hands on the wheel. Indian coxswain; the wheelhouse is marked 'Patricia'. Alternative angle. Indian soldier. A cockerel (a mascot?). Crowd of troops disembarking. LCM passing. Indian sailors pose for the camera. Low shot of troops' feet on the gunwale and water below. Landing craft's wake behind. Other craft passing.

Notes

Dopesheet identifies the troops as being of 'Ten Lincolns'. This is probably a reference to regimental history; the regiment was previously the 10th Regiment of Foot. This is reflected in patches on the men's bush hats which show a white 'X' on a dark field.

According to the dopesheet these troops met no opposition due to Japanese evacuation.
