Synopsis

Film by an American cameraman showing an amphibious landing at Ma-I Chaung (river or watercourse), part of the Letpan landings, in the Arakan coastal region of Burma.

Shot looking towards the bow of Royal Indian Navy motor launch ML 417; the sun rises over the Ma-I Chaung with a servicemen and the forward gun foreground. Crew members traverse the gun. Crewman hurling the lead. Crew on deck with the captain on the bridge. Closer shot of the captain with binoculars to his eyes. Vegetation at the waters edge with a landing craft beaching. View of the chaung with another motor launch leading landing craft. Dazzle-painted motor launch passing. Landing craft behind. Major C W Trees and Warrant Officer M W Houts (apparently both Americans) check a map with close-up. Smoke rising above a treeline. Views of the beachhead; Landing Craft Tank (LCT) 2440 is seen laden with Sherman tanks. The skipper of the cameramans motor launch is brought tea. More landing craft coming up the chaung. A motor launch, possibly ML 440, passes close by. Entrance to a chaung with pagoda and small craft. More landing craft with Landing Craft Assault (LCA) 2110 passing nearby. Landing craft beaching; an aircraft passes overhead and men run ashore. Men transferring to a smaller vessel alongside. Men on the shore advancing at a steady walk. A LCVP reverses away. Men on shore running. Long lens shot of men on shore walking amongst small buildings. Thick smoke. More landing craft. Vegetation and waters surface. Skipper of ML 417, Lieutenant R H Kilbey, at breakfast with close-up. ML 390 passing. A large explosion raises dust close to a number of landing craft. Another shot of ML 390 passing with the men onboard looking at the camera. More landing craft beaching with stores being carried off.
