INDIAN TROOPS VISIT VICKERS FACTORY AT CRAYFORD
This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: MWY 125).
Synopsis
A visiting contingent of Indian troops of 4th Indian Division are shown an armaments factory, probably the Vickers works at Crayford in Bexley (then in Kent, now part of Greater London).
A number of civilian men greet Indian troops of 4th Indian Division as they step off a bus. The soldiers see inside a factory and take an interest in the various machines and people at work. The troops see various parts and types of guns. Leaving the factory and entering another building. Panning shot shows the group.
Notes
No documentation survives for this film, so various details are unclear. Presumably shot in September 1943, probably by British Movietone. Two other films are held documenting this visit by Indian troops, showing them being decorated by the King at Buckingham Palace, and visiting the bomb-damaged East End of London.
Series note: The MWY series of films is believed to be part of a ‘pool’ of film received by the Government of India from various sources, including South East Asia Command, the Indian Inter-Service Public Relations Directorate, the Ministry of Information, and from Allied governments. This footage would have been considered for editing and release through the Indian Newsreel Parade; see INR series.
