Synopsis
At Mawlaik in Burma troops of 20th Indian Division operate rafts to transport men and supplies across the River Chindwin, and mules are made to swim across the river.
Mule train is led along a track. Indian troops passing. Wider shot shows mule train along the track. Troops marching on a sandy river beach with mules. Pan of the crossing point with waiting troops. Aircraft pass overhead. A dinghy is paddled past and a Gurkha muleteer sits next to his animal. A mule is pushed into the water to be led across the river by the Gurkhas in the dinghy. Shots of mules swimming. A close-up of an outboard motor marked Johnson Seahorse. A number of outboards, mounted to a wooden stand, are tested by Indian Engineers. A mule swims along across the river. More mules are led/dragged into the water. Fitting a Johnson Seahorse outboard to a boat. The boat motors away. Troops carrying ammunition boxes pass; they wear the patch of 20th Indian Division. Two soldiers, one British and one Gurkha, sitting in a narrow dug-out canoe. The canoe is paddled away by two local people. A square raft with two outboard motors is motored away. Craft in midstream. Dinghy leading a mule. Unloading gear from a raft. Loading mules. The artillery seen is possibly of 23rd Indian Mountain Regiment, 20th Indian Division's unit of mountain guns.
