INDIAN GUNNERS IN ACTION
This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: MWY 75).
Synopsis
Indian gunners, possibly of 4th Indian Field Regiment, Indian Artillery, part of 19th Indian Division, fire their 25-pounder guns in action in Burma.
Brief extreme close-up British mans face looking directly into camera. Indian gunners uncover and prepare a 25-pounder field gun. Setting sights. Loading and firing. Checking sights and depressing the barrel. Brief shot Indian soldier standing over map.
Notes
The unit is not identified on the cameraman's dopesheet, but the sheet does state 'Also covered by Lt Hayat'. Lieutenant A R Hayat also shot film of Indian artillery in action, the day after this film was shot, at Thityabin. That location suggests 19th Indian Division, and therefore 4th Indian Field Regiment. If so, this shoot presumably forms part of the division's operations on the Shwebo plain.
Series note: The MWY series of films is believed to be part of a ‘pool’ of film received by the Government of India from various sources, including South East Asia Command, the Indian Inter-Service Public Relations Directorate, the Ministry of Information, and from Allied governments. This footage would have been considered for editing and release through the Indian Newsreel Parade; see INR series.
