Synopsis
I. "The Seven Seas": HMS Duke of York sinks the Scharnhorst. The RAF's Coastal command in action. Bomber Command sinks the Tirpitz.
II. "The Far East Front": Americans land on the Marshall Islands, General MacArthur retakes the Philippines. British Fourteenth Army in Burma is a tribute to the work of General Wingate, who died in a plane crash.
III. "The Russian Front": The Red Army advances from Leningrad, Kiev, and the Crimea to Finland, Warsaw, and Budapest. Churchill meets Stalin in Moscow.
IV. "The Mediterranean Front": Anzio, Cassino, and the capture of Rome. The liberation of Greece. Marshal Tito symbolises resistance in Yugoslavia.
V. "The Home Front": Dominion premiers attend a conference in Downing Street. Princess Elizabeth comes of age. Churchill meets Roosevelt at Quebec. General Eisenhower plans to open a Second Front.
VI "Invasion": D-Day the 6th of June. The liberation of Cherbourg. The Germans launch their Flying Bombs. British 2nd Army in the Battle of Caen. The Bomb Plot against Hitler. Scenes at Falaise, South of France, Paris, Brussels, Antwerp, Arnhem, Aachen and the islands of the Scheldt Estuary.
