Synopsis
I. "Premier home from travels." a. Capture of Tripoli (aerial view) has finally eliminated the Italian colonial Empire. Soldiers of the 8th Army are seen walking towards the town before a Union flag is hoisted. Outside the city the Vice-Governor of Libya, the Prefect of Tripolitania and the Mayor of Tripoli surrender to Montgomery who then drives in triumph through the city. Pipes parade; Arabs clap. b. Remainder of newsreel covers Churchill's travels - seen in Cairo posing with Admiral Harwood, Generals Brooke, Wilson and Alexander, Field Marshal Dill, Mr Casey and "Lord" Lampson; then in Turkey being greeted by Premier Sarajoglu and Ambassador Knatchbull-Hugessen at an airfield before conferring with the Premier and President Inn in a train carriage at Adana ("Anglo-Turkish friendship was confirmed and strengthened"); then to Cyprus, met by Governor and wife Sir Charles and Lady Woolley before a meeting with prominent citizens of the island including ecclesiastics; then to Tripoli to meet Montgomery (with General Brooke) before driving through the town and addressing men (no sound); and finally back to Britain, met by Portal on airfield and wife, brother, Mrs Duncan Sandys and grandson Julian at station.
