Synopsis
I. "Twenty-five not out." Lieutenant General Devers, new US C-in-C in Britain, makes an address to the crew of a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress aircraft, the 'Memphis Belle', before they fly off to the United States where they will make a tour to promote war bonds.
II. "A two-gun story." Demonstration of the Austen, an Australian version of the Sten gun. Target-firing, then gun is submerged in sea, lifted out and fired again. Austen is quickly dismantled. Demonstration also of the American .45 sub-machine gun which dismantled can fit into a brief-case and weighs less than 9 lbs. Target-firing (450 rounds per minute).
III. "US Relief for French ex-prisoners." The US Office of Relief and Rehabilitation provides relief (shoes and boots in this film) for French prisoners, "many of them political", released in North Africa.
IV. "Malta in reverse - Pantelleria's eclipse." Steadfast endurance of Malta under attack is contrasted with collapse of Pantelleria. Eisenhower and Admiral of the Fleet Cunningham, on board HMS Aurora, watch the naval and aerial bombardment of the island which preceded the approach of landing craft (unsuccessfully attacked by German bombers). Map shows how shipping route to East is now clear.
