Synopsis

I. "High steppers in Trotting Classic." Various stages in the Hambletonian trotting race in USA won by 70 year old jockey.

II. "Crushing the Japs by air and sea." War of islands in SW Pacific continues (map of New Georgia). Planes bomb a Japanese cruiser and others attack base at Lae in New Guinea, strafing enemy landing craft as well. USN destroyers bombard the Japanese at Munda in New Georgia; smoke covers the shore, Mitchells also attack the island. "Now the tide is beginning to turn against the Japs."

III. "On the way." RAF Baltimores soften up the toe of the Italian boot in daylight raids after the invasion of Italy. Before that event, Montgomery is driven in a military camouflage car past his troops on parade in Sicily. Artillery opens up and in the dawn landing craft cross the Straits and land, "virtually unopposed." Casualties are brought back on landing craft. "The so-called Fortress of Europe has been prised open."
