BRITISH MOVIETONE NEWS ISSUE 774 (3 APRIL 1944)
This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: NMV 774).
Synopsis
I. "War brides reach new home." British wives of Canadian servicemen arrive with their children in Montreal
II. "Airplane of the future." View of model all-wing jet on stand.
III. "MacArthur - a close up." MacArthur watches the bombardment of Los Negros, part of the Admiralty Group off New Guinea, before coming ashore and passing a dead Japanese on the ground. Congratulates troops informally.
IV. "Fury of Vesuvius." RAF trucks remove villagers to safety from the vicinity of the erupting Vesuvius. Aerial film provides a clear but dark view of the summit; dense clouds of white smoke mushroom into the sky. Streams of lava flow down the mountainside by night and day, bull-dozing down the buildings of the village of San Sebastiano. The roar of the erupting mountain is allegedly the rumble on the soundtrack.
