Synopsis
I. "Knock out victory." British cruiserweight champion Freddie Mills easily outfights the one stone heavier Canadian heavyweight Al Delaney, who is knocked down before receiving a knock out blow. Fight was in aid of Russian war effort.
II. "Hospital President - HRH Princess Elizabeth." The Princess visits the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for Children in Hackney where, after being elected President, she makes a formal speech.
III. "Hollandia." USN ships bombard by night the Hollandia region of New Guinea before covering the dawn approach on April 22 of landing craft. Camera captures a marine stumbling into water as he lands. Commentary speaks of capture of tons of stores left by the retreating Japanese (invisible) and the acquisition of three airfields MacArthur looks on before coming ashore. Liberators bomb the coast.
IV. "Cassino falls." British troops move through the piles of rubble which was once Cassino and accept the surrender of an isolated group of Germans. Poles look round the ruins of the monastery, discovering that a few mosaics and paintings survived the bombardment and "finding" a German mortar position and ammunition. Monte Cassino described as a "monument to German ruthlessness."
