BRITISH MOVIETONE NEWS ISSUE 807 (20 NOVEMBER 1944)

Synopsis

I. "F.F.I. Visitors." 200 members of the FFI, on a tour of Britain, march past the Cenotaph (where a wreath is laid) then parade through London led by the band of the Scots Guards, before reaching Mansion House where they are greeted by the Lord Mayor.

II. "Kweilin evacuated." Civilians evacuate Kweilin, site of an important air base, following reports of the approach of the Japanese. Men, women and children stream out of the town on foot while others throng the station platform before crowding into a train.

III. "Chinese take Tengchung." Chinese soldiers of the 20th Group Army, trained and equipped by the USA, storm Japanese-held Tengchung on the Burma Road, using scaling ladders to enter the walled town. Japanese garrison of 2000 is reported to have been wiped out; film shows Chinese casualties and Japanese dead in the ruins.

IV. "Last of the Tirpitz." Over film of 1939 launching, ineffectual war record of Tirpitz is described. Successive air attacks on 15 September, 29 October and 12 November cripple and eventually sink battleship (clear film from great height).
