BRITISH MOVIETONE NEWS ISSUE 808 (27 NOVEMBER 1944)
This film is held by the Imperial War Museum (ID: NMV 808).
Synopsis
I. "Pictures tell Britain's Story to Paris." Ambassador Duff Cooper opens an exhibition organised by the Daily Mail which features Britain's "great war record", not always fully appreciated abroad. General Koenig, Governor of Paris, honours the exhibition with a visit; also present are Lady Diana Cooper and Mr Ward Price.
II. "The Firefly." Ground and take-off views of this Fairey-built fighter/reconnaissance plane, whose versatility is described.
III. "The Fourteenth." In Burma, the Fourteenth Army is "driving the Japanese back." Film shows the difficult conditions the troops endure, monsoon rains and sludge and exhausting climate. Pack mules trudge through the jungle and soldiers unload supplies for the night.
IV. "Western Battle Front." Winter conditions now prevail as US guns bombard Metz. Infantry move through the suburbs, casualties are suffered and prisoners taken. Stationary Shermans fire at Stolberg, captured on 17 November. British troops advance towards Geilenkirchen, taken on the 18th.
