Synopsis

I. Duke and Duchess of Somerset visit a Naval Training School.

I. 'FOUNDERS' DAY. The Duke and Duchess of Somerset at Dr. Barnardo's Homes. "Boys of the Bulldog Breed" dancing the hornpipe on the village green.' Two elderly civic dignitaries pass the camera in company with an equally ancient Rear-Admiral. The Duke and Duchess arrive by coach to be received by an honour guard of Boys in RN uniform, armed with Martini-Henry carbines. Boys' brass band plays, followed by a detachment armed with cadet rifles. About 30 boys in close ranks dance a fairly creditable hornpipe.

II. Flags from HMS Kent are hung in Canterbury Cathedral to commemorate the Battle of the Falkland Islands.

II. 'FLAGS OF H.M.S. KENT. Flags presented by the Ladies of Kent to H.M.S. Kent carried by British Bluejackets through the City of Canterbury'. HA.LS over square where soldiers - cavalry and VTC - are paraded before entering cathedral. A military band plays in the centre of the square. Civic dignitaries, many in robes of office, walk past to the service, followed by a RN detachment from HMS Pembroke, depot ship at Chatham. 'BATTLE OF THE FALKLAND ISLANDS. These honoured and tattered relics of the Falklands Battle were consecrated and hung in Canterbury Cathedral.' Continuation of the previous sequence - the armed RN detachment bring up the flags (Kent's ensign and small jack) which are taken inside the cathedral.

III. Canadian troops are reviewed by King George V on Dominion Day.

III. 'DOMINION DAY. The Canadians at Bramshott celebrating Dominion Day'. Horse artillery passes left to right with 18-pounder guns. 'THE KING REVIEWS CANADIANS. His Majesty accompanied by Lord French reviews the Canadians. Infantry and Artillery marching past the King who is taking the salute.' Canadian Highlanders march past King and Lord French who are on horseback - HM salutes.

Notes

Summary (item III): Canada became a dominion on 1/7/1867. The King was attended by French, C-in-C Home Forces and General Sir Archibald Hunter, C-in-C Aldershot Command.
