Synopsis
I. Berlin: meeting of Allied Control Commission. Arrival (inspection of Guard of Honour etc) of Zhukov, Eisenhower, Koenig and Montgomery; optimistic commentary.
II. Return of art treasures to the Louvre: wartime storage in chteau, empty galleries; the exhibits replaced.
III. Growing 'plants without soil' at a British research station.
IV. London: prefabs (prefabricated houses) and other building techniques as solution to the housing shortage.
V. War damage in the Ruhr ("the most shattered part of Germany") eg Dortmund: living conditions in the ruins, including film of a children's hospital.
VI. Rangoon: Japanese (General Numata) surrender to British (General Browning).
VII. (Reel 2) Long item on US forces' occupation of Japan. Halsey's 3rd Fleet (joined by Nimitz) approach Yokosuka; Marines go ashore in landing craft. USS San Diego docks; meanwhile 11th Airborne Division flies in from Okinawa to Atsugi airfield. MacArthur arrives by plane, and is met by General Eichelberger (C/O 8th Army). POWs welcome occupying troops.
